Hi everyone
The new 2019 schedule and entry form for the 10th March have been added, with judges Helen McCormick, Simon Neesam and Jason Caulfield. This is our Audrey Baxter Memorial show and there will be medals for the winners as well as our usual rosettes. The show is also an Abyssinian Cavy Club points show.
As well as our own show, we are also hosting the Southern Cavy Club Spring Stock show. This is an SCC 5* show, with judges George Leete, Andrew Sparkes and Jim McCormick. Trophies to the main winners and lots of colourful rosettes.
To help us with the catering, please let me know if you are likely to want a lunch on the day. It will probably be roast chicken, with a veggie alternative.
If you are new to showing and need any help, just drop me an email.
ENTRIES CLOSE FRIDAY 1st MARCH.
Hope to see lots of you there.

We have added two new pet classes to the schedule - the first for exhibitors who have yet to win a Best Pet award, the second for new exhibitors entering their 1st or 2nd show. They are open to both adult and junior exhibitors. There is no separate entry fee for these classes, but pigs must be entered in the main show. Just tick the column "Special" or "New" (or both) on the entry form. There are rosettes for 1st - 4th in these classes.
Entry fees are £2 for Self and Non-Self sections, £1 for everything else.
As usual, any help with setting up on the day will be appreciated, as will donations of raffle prizes and cakes. There is no necessity to book lunch in advance, but if you think you would like one, please let me know with your entry - it will give us an idea of numbers.
If any of you are new to showing and have any queries, please drop me an email and I'll be happy to help.

On checking the store boxes I noticed one of the two boxes of Pen Numbers was not there. Does anyone remember what happened to it? Was it taken up to the store area with the pens and boards? Has anyone taken it home to sort out?

Trophy Show
Now that the club is becoming more secure financially, the question has come up whether we should consider running a trophy show or at least improve the quality of our rosettes for one or all of our shows.
Keeping a few points in mind:
· At the moment we effectively have no trophies that are worth presenting.
· Any development beyond our present practice with rosettes will involve an increased financial cost and so we will not be able to consider reducing our high entry fees.
· We include all attending exhibitors as “members”, so the trophies will be available for anyone exhibiting at the show. This makes recovering trophies each year more challenging!
Several suggestions have been made:
1. We should keep the shows as they are and concentrate on getting judges that we usually don’t meet in this area (and therefore usually claim higher travelling expenses)
2. We should increase the quality of the Rosettes for the major classes for all shows.
3. We should increase the quality of all the Rosettes for all shows.
4. We should have one show per year with better quality Rosettes.
5. We should have small trophies (to be kept) instead of rosettes for the major classes for all shows.
6. We should have one show per year with trophies for the major classes, to be kept.
7. We should have the old fashioned major trophy show where the trophies have to be returned annually. (this is very labour intensive)
So to help this discussion move forward, which 3 suggestions above do you favour?
1) . . . . . . 2) . . . . . . 3) . . . . . .
And do you have an alternative suggestion?

Heygates Rabbit Choice Pellets
Heygates 3mm rabbit pellets are manufactured from quality raw materials with locally produced cereals fortified with proteins, minerals and vitamins to satisfy all your rabbit's nutritional requirements.
The Rabbit Choice Pellet is without the coccidiostat and a vitamin C supplement is added so that the pellets can be fed to Guinea Pigs.
Would anyone be interested in trying and maybe helping to establish a local supplier to the Mid-Sussex Cavy Club area.
Or is there a supplier that I haven’t found?
Those interested phone Kit on 01273 843690
Bodle Bros, Cuckfield Road, Burgess Hill now supply the pellets currently at £8.25 for a 20kg bag

Hi Folks, I know I don’t often put anything on this page but recently an interesting (and somewhat concerning) situation has occurred since the last show in July.
It is about the payment of entry fees by fanciers that put in an entry and then for some justifiable reason do not attend the show.
If you agree with it or not, it is SCC policy that the entry fees should be paid whether you attend or not.
Sue P is very good in quietly chasing unpaid fees and in most occasions we receive payment relatively quickly and often with a sincere apology for not paying sooner!
However on this occasion we have a large entry fee that has still not been paid!!!!! (that is, at the time of writing this (i.e. end of August)). And other secretaries tell us this is becoming a regular occurrence.
I understand we are now expected to refer it to the SCC so they can chase the “offenders”. However we are also working together with other club secretaries. So, if you haven’t paid up with one club, don’t be too surprised if your entry is questioned at another club.
And finally>>>>
May I give a big thank-you to everyone who helps at the Mid-Sussex shows whether it is setting up at the start, helping in the kitchen, stewarding, putting out prize cards, taking down at the end or generally being happy and sharing the fun of breeding and showing cavies.
The show is organised by a very small group of people and we couldn’t do it without your help on the day, so again thank you very much.
Regards
Kit

It was with great sadness to hear from Val Cole Valterre stud, that her husband Terry had died. Some fanciers will remember them for their champion rexes and helping to start the Rex Club. Terry's main breed was his Dutch. They were very involved with Weald Club and of course Mid-Sussex, where they ran the kitchen. Our thoughts are with Val and her family.

Kit asked me yesterday if I could put this question on here. He has a farmer that can sell some hay bales at the next Mid Sussex show, but wants to know who would actually be interested in taking a bale or 2 home in their car from the show. Would it be worth while for the farmer to bring some along?
Perhaps let Kit know when you see him next if you would be interested.
